President Carter Files UFO Case with the International UFO Bureau
Another notable investigation carried out by the International UFO Bureau was the sighting reported by President Jimmy Carter during the early 1970s At the time, President Jimmy Carter was still a Senator preparing for his run as Governor of Georgia. While on the campaign trail, he experienced his now famous UFO sighting while at the Lion's Club in Leary. As noted in the official report filed with the International UFO Bureau, he witnessed a somewhat transparent object in the sky which was flashing white, red, and blue lights. This sighting was witnessed by over 20 other people at the time. This sighting had gone unofficially reported until 1973, when Hayden reached out to Governor Carter to request that he file an official report with the IUFOB. A typed version was later sent to NUFORC, and a copy of the handwritten report is now stored at the Carter Presidential Library.
While on the campaign trail, Jimmy Carter stated “One thing's for sure, I'll never make fun of people who say they've seen unidentified objects in the sky. If I become President, I'll make every piece of information this country has about UFO sightings available to the public and the scientists.” Unfortunately, as we all know, that did not happen. There have been reports that once he did find out about the truth behind the UFO mystery, he sat and wept and remained visibly disturbed for several weeks afterwards.
